Youth tennis, hoops open soon

The Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center will soon be accepting registration for its fall indoor sessions beginning in November.

The Department of Parks and Recreation has said that Tennis for Tots will begin its fall indoor session there on Mondays starting Nov. 5 for six weeks. The program is for children three and four-years-old will run from 2:45 to 3:15 p.m. or 3:15 to 3:45 p.m. The five, six and seven-year-old program will be from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m., 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. or 5:15 to 6 p.m.

The cost is $85 for the three and four-year-olds, and $95 for the five to seven-year-old programs.

Pat Cianciulli, director of the town’s tennis program for four years will teach the program. He also teaches at various private clubs in Greenwich, and has worked at the U.S. Open. He has taken the latest workshops with the USPTR.

The course will be held in the Bendheim Western Civic Center Gym. Tennis rackets will be provided.

Registration will begin Monday, Oct. 9 to 12 by mail only. Walk in registration will begin on Oct. 15.

Additionally, the Department of Parks and Recreation has announced that youth basketball clinics will begin at the Civic Center on Thursdays starting Nov. 1 for six weeks.

The program for children in kindergarten will run from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. Children in first and second grades will meet from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m., and third and fourth graders meet from 5:15 to 6 p.m. The cost for the program is $100.

Coach John Czarnecki will teach this junior basketball class. Mr. Czarnecki is certified by the state of Connecticut and has coached for more than 25 years. He has also coached for the Greenwich Basketball Association, Greenwich Flame travel team, Greenwich Boys and Girls Club and the freshman, JV and Varsity Basketball teams at Greenwich High School.

The course will be held in the Civic Center gym. Registration will begin by mail only starting Monday, Oct. 9 until the 12th. In person registration at the Civic Center begins on Monday, Oct. 15.
