Learning disability conference offered

Eagle Hill School and the Connecticut Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities (CACLD) have announced a collaborative one-day conference Best Practices and New Perspectives in the Field of Learning Disabilities and Attention Deficits on Saturday, Nov. 3 on the Eagle Hill School campus.

This collaborative effort will use the expertise of both organizations to provide a comprehensive educational experience on learning disabilities for parents, special education teachers, mainstream classroom teachers, consultants, diagnosticians, guidance counselors, tutors, psychologists, speech and language professionals and paraprofessionals.

The day will begin with a keynote speech on “Stress and the LD Puzzle” with faculty member of the Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry Jerome Schultz.

Learning disability experts such as Lydia Soifer, Alan Wachtel, Howard Klebanoff, Betty Osman, Kevin Kalikow, and Nelson Dorta and others will be joined by the faculty and administrators of Eagle Hill to present 21 workshops on a wide range of topics, including reading instruction, medication, assistive technology, proactive parenting, family dynamics, advocacy, the social-pragmatic puzzle, living with ADHD and more.

The symposium is as much for parents and college students as it is for educators. Many of the event’s speakers are authorities in their fields but are still immersed in the daily business of working with children and their families, meaning that while those in attendance will be privy to the latest research and expertise, they will also come away with practical methods of implementation, both at home and in the classroom.

In order to make the conference as accessible as possible, registration fees are just $160 for the day, including a choice of 21 workshops, vendors, the CACLD marketplace, a light breakfast and box lunch and free parking.

For a full agenda, or to register for the conference, visit Eaglehillschool.org/conference. Registration is online only.
