Metalios Group from William Raveis Real Estate vows $1,000 donation to charity from each 2016 sale

The Metalios Group at William Raveis Real Estate in Greenwich will donate $1,000 from every home sale commission in 2016 to the 501(c)(3) nonprofit, school or religious organization of their client’s choice. This is a first in the Greenwich real estate market, and an initiative that The Metalios Group is hoping will kick off the giving season in the community.

“One of the wonderful attributes of our community is how so many people contribute to making Greenwich a wonderful place to live,” said Joy Kim Metalios, team leader of The Metalios Group. “When we give back, we become a part of something that is bigger than ourselves. With this small gesture, together with our clients, we are able to contribute to making the world a better place to live.”

Metalios said she is always looking for inventive ways of doing business, and has a vast network of leading-edge agents throughout the world that she collaborates with. This idea was inspired by a realty group in Texas.

“When I heard about Give Realty in Austin, Texas, and how they were able to make such a huge impact on their community, I thought it was brilliant,” Metalios said.

“Homeownership is something people take pride in,” she said, adding that while helping people find new homes through her job as a real estate agent has been “rewarding,” she is also aware of people that don’t have the luxury of knowing where they will sleep every night.

Metalios said her time spent in New Orleans, La., helping people rebuild their homes in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina brought that point home even more. She has also spent time with her husband and three children working at Inspirica, a women’s shelter in Stamford, as well as the Midnight Run in New York City.

“It really puts things in perspective,” Metalios said. “Having sold homes for 20 years, I see how a house provides more than shelter, but an emotional sense of security, pride and comfort. Just as no individual should go to sleep hungry, no one should be worried about where they will sleep at night.

“Although I know I can’t fix the homeless problem individually, I know that small acts of kindness can go a long way towards encouraging someone who is stuck in a desolate place. When I work with the un-housed, I listen to their stories and encourage them to have hope, letting them know that their spirit is their home built within themselves, which I believe, but deep down, I wish I could give them a physical house.”

Although Metalios personally said she feels compelled to help the homeless, the “giving back” initiative allows the client to decide where to donate the $1,000.

“Everyone has strong feelings about where they want to give and what a better place it will be when we do,” she said.
