Annual Thanksgiving Diversity Breakfast is Thursday

More than 100 organizations in Westchester and Fairfield Counties have joined together for the annual Thanksgiving Diversity Breakfast on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 7:45-10 a.m., at Manhattanville College, Purchase, N.Y. as we celebrate our diverse roots and shared values.

This year, we honor three individuals for their exemplary work “Respecting Ourselves, Respecting Others.” Monsignor Alan Detscher of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Greenwich, Joel Fridovich of the New Rochelle Alternative High School, and Ayse Keskin of the Turkish Cultural Center; and will also feature a special tribute to Cliff Wolf, co-chair of AJC Westchester/Fairfield Interreligious and Intergroup Relations Committee.

Presenting the awards will be previous Diversity Breakfast honorees: Reverend Paul Alcorn of Westchester Youth Allliance and the Bedford Presbyterian Church, Janice Lubin Kirschner of JCY-Westchester Community Partners, and Carolyn Kunin of Walking Together. Additional presenters include Dr. Jon Strauss, President of Manhattanville College; Reverend Susan Andrews, General Presbyter for the Hudson River Presbytery; a community youth choir; and the Quintessentials Choir of Manhattanville College. The honoree presentation will be followed by facilitated table discussions on the theme for this year’s Breakfast: “Respecting Ourselves, Respecting Others.”

The Breakfast has expanded to include Fairfield County, and some 400 interfaith and interethnic leaders from both counties are expected to attend. The event is sponsored by AJC Westchester/Fairfield, The Duchesne Center for Religion and Social Justice, the Hudson River Presbytery, Mamaroneck United Methodist Church, Temple Sholom, and the Westchester Jewish Council.  They will represent over 100 organizations, including the Episcopal Diocese of NY; the Catholic Archdiocese of NY, NY Annual Conference (Methodist); and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, New York Stake.   Also, many government officials will be in attendance.
