Greenwich Antiques Society presents Art Nouveau: A Jewel in Every Medium

The Greenwich Antiques Society presents “Art Nouveau: A Jewel in Every Medium,” a lecture by Benjamin Macklowe, president, Macklowe Gallery, New York Monday, Dec. 7, at 1:15 p.m., The Bruce Museum, 1 Museum Drive. Refreshments immediately follow the lecture.

Benjamin Macklowe will examine the relationship between the major motifs of the Art Nouveau movement and the motional and symbolic themes through the medium of jewelry. Macklowe will present how jewelry evolved from status symbol to a form of self-expression and how Eastern, Ancient, and European art and culture influenced the motifs at the core of the Art Nouveau movement.

Benjamin Macklowe is a sought-after expert in his field, has lectured throughout the nation. In recent years Macklowe has sought to shed light on areas of collecting, spearheading the publication of “Dynamic Beauty: Sculpture of Art Nouveau Paris” and “Nature Transformed: Art Nouveau Horn Jewelry”. Macklowe Gallery specializes in Antique and Estate Jewelry, French Art Nouveau decorative arts and the entire oeuvre of Louis Comfort Tiffany.
