Public, private schools will remain closed through the week

UPDATED WEDNESDAY 6:30 PM — With many town roads still fully or partially blocked due to the extensive damage from Hurricane Sandy all public schools will be closed through at least the end of the week.

In making the decision, Superintendent of Schools William McKersie cited the uncertainty of power being restored in town, inaccessible roads and concerns about pedestrian safety. Classes had already been canceled through Wednesday, but the district has announced there will be no school as well on Thursday and Friday. The district said it will make a decision about being able to reopen on Monday by 2 p.m. on Sunday. Schools are already scheduled to be closed next Tuesday due to Election Day.

Greenwich Academy has also canceled its classes for the rest of the week as has Brunswick School. Convent of the Sacred Heart also has announced it is canceling its classes on Thursday and Friday as well as the open house for prospective students that was to be held on Saturday. That event will be rescheduled once school reopens next week.
