Julian Curtiss celebrates 25 years of its United Nations Day


On Thursday, Oct. 22, at 1 p.m., the Julian Curtiss Magnet School of World Languages will celebrate its 25th annual United Nations Day Celebration with an assembly and parade. Sixty eight countries will be represented in the parade and each student will walk behind the flags of their respective countries, dressed in his/her country’s native attire.

The parade of nations begins at 1 and will include several guest speakers. Julian Curtiss is honored to have United Nations Ambassador Joseph V. Reed as a guest speaker, as he has been a guest for the past 24 years, since the inception of this time honored event.In addition,Ms. Nancy Carbone, principal of Julian Curtiss for 18 years and founder of the UN Day Parade, will address the community. And lastly, the Julian Curtiss Choraleers, comprised of 4th and 5th grade students, will perform a song in honor of the day.

The UN Day celebration will continue with an International Food Tasting the following evening, where the Julian Curtiss community will share their culture and heritage by bringing and sharing dishes. There will be a DJ playing a mixture of international and pop music and dancing at the food tasting.

According to the JC Principal, Trish McGuire, “The United Nations Day Parade is the Julian Curtiss signature event.It is a celebration of the internationalism and cultural diversity of our community.”

The JC PTA graciously thanks Carmine Labriola Contracting Corporation for donating the beautiful mums for the festivities.
