Anthony Lawrence Belfair grand opening Thursday

Anthony Lawrence Belfair has announced the grand opening of its first luxury design store in Greenwich, on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 138 Hamilton Avenue.

About Anthony Lawrence Belfair

Craftsmanship accompanies detail and quality. It embraces comfort and assurance. It entails artistic tradition and perfect design. Craftsmanship is one of the defining qualities of Anthony Lawrence-Belfair and all of their products. Stemmed in a tradition of custom, hand built furniture that started over thirty years ago and founded in a family tradition that started many years prior in Greenwich. ALB hasn’t lost this value through time, they have built on it, standing out even in the days of mass production. With every piece of furniture and drapery ALB delivers customer satisfaction with custom craftsmanship.

The philosophy is simple; nothing leaves the shop that is not 100% to form. Every piece starts with the customers design and ends with an inspection by the business owners themselves. Each piece of wood is hand carved, each pillow is hand sewn, and each drape is hand stitched. With a staff of over seventy skilled and crafted workers, each ALB product is built by hand and inspected by hand.

Craftsmanship, a word that accompanies perfection.

As President of Anthony Lawrence – Belfair, Joe Calagna oversees all operations at the firm established by his grandfather and father 40 years ago; ensuring the heirloom upholstery and curtains they produce remain representative of their sterling reputation as the design industry’s best bespoke workroom.

Having begun his apprenticeship at the age of 8 sweeping the shop and stripping furniture, he has intimate knowledge of every step in the manufacturing process, and is widely regarded as an expert craftsman who shares his knowledge with his equally talented staff, as well as with leading members of the interior design community throughout the United States and beyond.

When not at the workroom located in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, Joe spends his time in Greenwich, Conneticut with his wife of 24 years Amy, and his 3 beautiful daughters Jackie, Samantha, and Danielle.

Tradition is another word that is part of the ALB culture, a family tradition. Beginning in 1976 in a small workshop in Greenwich, Connecticut, Anthony Lawrence started with humble beginnings with worldly ambitions. A second-generation custom craftsman, Joseph Calagna (Joe Lawrence grandfather) decided to take his custom work to the public. With the idea of individual handmade quality for each and very piece, custom to order, ALB began work diligently with clients ranging from housewife next to door to the top designers in the world. The quality of the work slowly but surely gained notoriety over time, becoming one of the premier custom design and manufacturing houses in New York and in the world. As the business tradition expanded, so did the family tradition. Siblings Joe and Lana Lawrence soon took over the business as it grew to a seventy plus employee staff. Leaving the company’s birthplace of Greenwich to accommodate it growth, AL moved the workroom right in the heart of New York City on West 23rd Street.

During the growth period, Anthony Lawrence acquired the acclaimed custom drapery company Belfair Drapery, creating Anthony Lawrence-Belfair. As well rounded company and a top custom furniture house, ALB began to work with a client base that includes some of the most renowned designers in the world, including Mark Hampton, LLC, David Kleinberg, Cullman & Kravis, Inc. and Juan Montoya.

The new Anthony Lawrence luxury design store is located at 138 Hamilton Avenue in Greenwich, Connecticut.
