Town Hall career fair set for Oct. 31

The Greenwich Department of Social Services and Goodwill Western and Northern Connecticut will be joining together to sponsor a career fair to be held at Greenwich’s Town Hall Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Major employers with current job openings will be on the premises to interview job seekers including the United States’ Army National Guard, Bank of America, Cablevision, Prudential, The McIntyre Group, New York Life Insurance, Right at Home, Staples, and Walgreens. People interested in attending are urged to register in advance by visiting the Goodwill website at Gwct.org.

Earlier this year, Goodwill opened a career counseling service at 1143 E. Putnam Avenue, Riverside, staffed by experienced placement professionals offering free services including help in resume writing, interviewing skills and access to local job listings. In addition to one-on-one counseling, the center offers weekly workshops on topics ranging from Internet and e-mail basics to strategies for job seekers over the age of 50.

Greenwich Department of Social Services assists clients with strengthening their employment skills by referring them to vocational training programs and offering financial assistance with defraying the cost of tuition, transportation, and child care. The department also established its Workforce Development Group that brings together local employment and vocational training agencies to organize and coordinate efforts to improve employment opportunities for Greenwich residents.

“We are delighted to work with Goodwill on this Career Fair. Putting job seekers in touch with employers helps to fulfill our mission to encourage Social Services clients to become self-sufficient” said Greenwich’s Commissioner of Social Services Alan Barry.

Those interested should note that parking near Town Hall is limited. Public transportation is available nearby.

For further information and registration,go to Gwct.org or call 203-581-5040. The website also has a complete list of employers attending.
