K-9 Karnival is for the dogs and their owners

Trap Falls Kennel Club will host its AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day event (RDO Day), K-9 Karnival, Saturday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fireman’s Field, 706 Monroe Tpke., Monroe.

The family-oriented event demonstrates how dog owners can create a bond and relationship with their pup by providing proper training, health care and nutrition.

K-9 Karnival will feature Doggie Fun Zone, the obstacle course dogs can run through (coached by their human companions).

Dog Listener of the East, Pat Wright, will also be on hand to talk about how to best communicate with your dog, through words and actions.

Police dog demonstrations are scheduled, as well as Frisbee demos. Owners can see if their dog possesses impeccable manners by taking the AKC Canine Good Citizen test (CGC), thereby earning their CGC title.

Additionally, CGCA (advanced) testing is available.

Also, there will be a low-cost micro-chipping clinic on site. Contests will include best dressed, best trick and best kisser.

Kids can read to special therapy dogs, who love hearing a good story. There will be a booth with sign-up times for 10-15 minute intervals.

Trap Falls Kennel Club meets regularly in Shelton. Money from the event will go to local shelters.
