Greenwich Crew fares well at Head of Passaic

The Greenwich Crew junior rowers continued their successful fall racing season by winning the overall points trophy at the Head of the Passaic Regatta in Lyndhurst, N.J., on Saturday, Oct. 13.

In the first race of the day, the experienced boys team continued their winning streak in the Varsity 8+ event be winning the gold medal. That crew, comprised of Greg Lurito, Lucas Colagrassi, Hutch Bryant, Vaughan Merrick, Herbie Marache, Will Cecio, James Yoon and Oliver Grueterich, is currently undefeated so far this season.

 

In the same event, the Greenwich Crew 2nd 8+ boat of Steven Ortiz, Jack Gordon, Albert Rydevik, Andrew Wolf, Ian Dunne, Austin Nasso, Nick Klamka, Justin Lee and Karl Johnson finished in third place.

The Girls Varsity 8+ (Clara Perez, Megan Slabbert, Alex Slabbert, Bonnie Marcus, Sarah Reswow, Melissa Curtis, Troone Marchack, Gillian Burke and Brakeley Bryant) had a winning day as well, taking the gold in their event.

Competing in their first regatta, the Greenwich Crew Novice girls had a great day. Sophie Perez, Astrid Rydevik, Cayla Smith, Abbie Wolf, Leigh Galetta, Jackie Steinman, Sarah Brecher, Charlotte Lorthioir and Sarah Barnaby finished the Women’s Junior Novice 8+ event in third place.

Greenwich Crew proved its competitiveness by finishing well in several small boats throughout the day of competition.

The Men’s Junior 4+ boat of Alain Hayashida, Will Cecio, Lucas Colagrossi, John Oswald and Oliver Grueterich won their event with the time of 14:54.09. In the Women’s Junior 4+ event, the group of Clara Perez, Gillian Burke, Brakeley Bryant, Bonnie Marcus and Troone Marchack finished with the bronze medal.

In the sculling events, Greenwich Crew athletes held its own, as the group of Megan Slabbert, Alex Slabbert, Melissa Curtis and Sarah Reswow finished second in the Women’s Junior 4x. The Men’s Junior 4x boat of George Miller, Kota Otsuka, Spencer Heim, and August Allocco placed third.  
Herbie Marache and Vaughan Merrick won their second medal of the day in the Men’s Junior 2x, where they took third place.
The Greenwich Crew Juniors will be in action Saturday morning when they compete at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass.
