Later school start times result in better performance

A recent study from the Center for Applied Research and Educational Improvement at the University of Minnesota found that later school start times resulted in better academic outcomes and attendance amongst high school students. To maximize student achievement, Fusion Academy Greenwich, an accredited one-to-one private school opening its doors in September offers flexible scheduling and start times, allowing students to get a complete night’s rest before heading to school.

“There is a tremendous level of interest in later school start times in the Greenwich community, and with good reason — flexible scheduling and start times aligned to individual needs and sleep cycles can be the difference between struggling and thriving for a great numbers of students,” said Jennifer Walsh-Rurak, Ed.D.

Dr. Walsh-Rurak noted that “Fusion Academy Greenwich offers students the opportunity to take classes at times that best fit into their schedules, not only providing flexibility to account for other important activities in their lives, but also ensuring they get the sleep they need in order to perform well academically. We recognize that not every student is ready to be highly engaged in an academic setting by 7:30 a.m., and with that in mind we design schedules that are customized and individualized for each learner.”

At Fusion, classes are offered year round so students can begin studying at any time during the calendar year. Students seeking to make up a course, get ahead, or simply have some fun may take standard academic courses for credit or sample the Fusion program by taking the Fusion Intensive. The Fusion Intensive allows students a semester for credit plus a sampling of art/music, Leadership Skills, and Study Skills for a special introductory price.

Parents interested in learning more about Fusion are encouraged to attend one of the school’s information meetings. To attend a meeting or for more information on Fusion’s revolutionary community of learning, visit or call 866.997.6595.
