The Ladies Free Skate or “Long Program” as it is also known, is what all figure skaters aim for during all their years of training. Many skaters quit before they reach the top level, also known as the Olympic level. All Olympic skaters test senior ladies. Leigh skated a clean program to “Time to Say Good-Bye” with Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman. Massachusetts won silver and Nebraska won bronze.

For Pippa, being in Nebraska, her mom’s home state, meant even more. She had visited there all her life. Now to compete where her figure skating career started on the national level was an amazing opportunity. She was also chosen to carry the state flag for Connecticut during the opening ceremonies at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. This was where Pippa turned on her charm as Miss Hockanum Valley 2015 with the Miss America Organization. Suited up in sash and crown, she marched in the parade of champions with Olympian Lolo Jones and NBA star Doug McDermott as Grand Marshal for the parade.

She would like to get Connecticut athletes of all ages, excited about the next state games of 2017! You can qualify by competing during the next two years at our local Nutmeg State Games in every sport. A top three place will qualify an athlete. The National Congress of State Games has just announced Michigan as the host for 2017!
