Global Lyme Alliance to host 4th annual Golf Outing to raise funds for Lyme disease research

Global Lyme Alliance (GLA), the nation’s leading Lyme and tick-borne disease nonprofit devoted to research and education, has announced that its fourth annual golf outing will take place Thursday, Sept. 10 at the Stanwich Club in Greenwich. Proceeds from the event will be used to help fund research and ultimately find a cure for Lyme and other tick-borne diseases.

“A few weeks ago, we heard singer Avril Lavigne talk about her struggle to get properly diagnosed, and her situation, unfortunately, is not unusual,” said Peter Willner, GLA’s CEO. “Lyme disease is notoriously difficult to diagnose and treat. That’s why GLA continues to search out and support the most promising research to develop better diagnostic tests, treatments and ultimately a cure.”

The tournament will begin with registration and warm-up at 11 a.m., followed by a lunch buffet served on the clubhouse terrace, and a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Following the tournament, golfers and guests will be treated to a cocktail reception, buffet dinner, silent auction and awards ceremony. The cost is $1,000 per player or $3,500 per foursome.

The private 18-hole Stanwich Club, set on 450 acres, is rated best in Connecticut in 2015-2016 by Golf Digest and is the highest ranked Connecticut course in New England Golf Monthly’s list of top 25 private courses. Stanwich is one of the most difficult courses in the New York metropolitan area, on a par with U.S. Open sites Winged Foot West and Bethpage Black. From the longest tees, it features 7,133 yards of golf for a par of 72. The design, beauty and challenge of its tight fairways and fast greens make Stanwich a must-play for any golfer.

Committee members for the tournament are Charles Balducci, Robert Bel Bruno, Richard Comeau, Tony Frascella, Alan Herzog, Dana and Malcolm McAvity.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available. For registration and information about sponsorship levels, go to or contact event coordinator, Shelley Terry at [email protected]
