iCreate People’s Choice Award announced

High school Senior Kathy Flores has won the Bruce Museum’s iCreate People’s Choice Award for her painting Koi Fish. Our community of judges decided on Flores’ painting which was not on display in the Museum Gallery, but may be viewed on the exhibition video (painting #65), along with all participating students’ art and local students’ music. The People’s Choice Award generated 1,200 votes from online and in-person visitors — Thanks to all who took the time to view all entries and vote.

Kathy Flores is a recent graduate from the High School of Art & Design in New York. she has had a successful year for art awards. She was the 2015 receipt of four honorable mentions, two Silver, and one Gold award from the 2015 National Scholastic Awards, and was a featured artist in Times Square Advertising Coalition five-day public art presentation featuring artworks by public school students from the five boroughs. Her art was also featured in Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 2015 NY Youth exhibition. In addition, Flores also received a scholarship award from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Kathy’s art education will continue at LaGuardia Community College.

iCreate is organized each year by the Museum’s Youth Committee, [email protected], as a way for youth volunteers to have a meaningful experience at the Museum and obtain various job skills to enhance their resume. Cash prizes are awarded to first, second and third place, as well as honorary mention winners, as selected by a jury. An additional award, the [email protected] Award, is selected by the [email protected] committee. The People’s Choice Award is decided by public vote online at the Museum’s website and by visitors in person. All participating students are eligible for the People’s Choice Award.

Be sure to come in to see the iCreate exhibition if you haven’t yet, The exhibition closes this weekend, but the video presentation of all entries will remain online.
