Christ Church choristers prepare to travel to England

Robes are freshly laundered, music folders are in order, and pencils are sharp. Passports are up-to-date, and airline tickets printed. Excitement mounts, and there is music in the air.

In a little more than a week, 30 boys and girls, choristers at Christ Church Greenwich, will set off from the Putnam Avenue parking lot, on the first leg of a journey that will take them more than 8,000 miles. Their destination is the ancient cathedral of Bristol, in the South-West of England. There they will provide music at all worship services, as choir-in-residence for a week.

With music as their goal, along the way they will experience the wide cultural palette of all that England has to offer. Boys and girls will explore ancient caves and a seaside town. They will experience life in the historical port of Bristol, and taste the local fish and chips. They will soak up the rarified atmosphere of the University of Cambridge, and take a river trip along the Backs. They will sing in London’s historic Westminster Abbey, site of royal weddings, funerals, and coronations, for more than a millennium.

At the end of all this, they will return to Greenwich enriched, by memories of their shared music, a common endeavor, and by strong bonds of renewed friendship. These are treasures that will last, long after their bags are unpacked. These are treasures that will enrich both church and community.

Join us on this adventure. Follow our blog at beginning July 26. Soak up the experiences of our chorister journal, and view some fun pictures along the way. Listen to recordings of our services. Partake in our worship, and support us in prayer.
