Greenwich Library cult films to screen 'You Only Live Twice'

Librarian Ed Morrissey’s monthly film series is devoted to bringing patrons classic cult movies both from Hollywood and around the world. On Thursday, July 16, at 6:30 p.m., Cult Films will screen Roald Dahl’s interpretation of You Only Live Twice (1967). Both film buffs and ingénues are welcome.

This very loose but fun adaptation of Ian Fleming’s 1964 novel is the fifth official 007 thriller. James Bond (Sean Connery) is in Japan investigating stolen space capsules and uncovers a plot by SPECTRE to start World War III. Super villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld, head of SPECTRE, is revealed for the first time in this film. Blofeld’s cat loving, scar-faced character was later parodied in the popular Austin Powers series in the form of Dr. Evil.

The cast of You Only Live Twice includes Mie Hama and Donald Pleasence as Blofeld (Halloween) with a screenplay by Roald Dahl and directed by Lewis Gilbert (Alfie). The film is in color, 117 minutes long and is rated PG.

In the course of this series, Morrissey will cover a wide sweep of genres, comedies, crime noir, horror, thrillers, musicals, spaghetti westerns, Hitchcock, Fellini and more. Greenwich Library Cult Films, through the Library’s extensive DVD collection and online hoopla service, hopes to expose these fringe films to a much wider and appreciative audience.

The Cult Films Series is open to all at no charge and is held in the Meeting Room. For more information contact Ed Morrissey at [email protected], visit or call 203-622-7918.
