Greenwich Symphony opens season

To open its 2012-13 season, the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra will present acclaimed pianist Angela Cheng performing the Piano Concerto No. 1 of Beethoven on Oct. 13 and 14.

Consistently cited for her brilliant technique, tonal beauty and superb musicianship, Ms. Cheng is considered one of Canada’s brightest stars.

She won the gold medal of the 1986 Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition and has appeared as soloist with virtually every orchestra in Canada as well as many more across the United States.

The program will also include Mozart’s Symphony No. 36, known as Linz, and Ravel’s Mother Goose.

The concerts will take place on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 14 at 4 p.m. at Greenwich High School Auditorium on Hillside Road, off U.S. 1. A free, pre-concert lecture will be given by Associate Conductor Tara Simoncic one hour before each performance.

Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for students. For more information, call 203-869-2664 or visit Greenwichsym.org.
