Motor vehicle accident closes Sound Beach Avenue

An accident that took place at approximately 5 a.m. this morning has closed down Sound Beach Avenue between East Putnam Avenue and Laddins Rock Road.

According to police, an elderly man lost control of his vehicle in the area of 38 Sound Beach Avenue. He struck a utility pole, causing significant damage and requiring the road to be shut down for all north and southbound traffic, although some crossroads remain open.

Utility crews are on the scene to repair damages but the road closure is expected to affect rush hour and school traffic and police have advised residents to avoid the area.

The driver, whose name has not been released, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Stamford Hospital.
