Greenwich Marlins grab 9th in national diving event

The YMCA of Greenwich Marlins Dive Team recently returned from the 2012 USA Diving National Diving Championships in Greensboro, N.C.

Of the 54 teams that went to the Nationals, the YMCA of Greenwich placed ninth in the country.

“We are very proud of our entire squad,” said Dylan Korn, one of the coaches for the Greenwich Marlins Dive Team. “They are young, but they train hard and have a lot of fun. This meet is comprised of the best divers in the country. We brought 11 divers to North Carolina and they all did great. We placed ninth overall out of 54 teams. Our divers should all be very proud.”

In additional to placing ninth in the country, there were three standout divers. James Hopper placed second overall on 3-meter, third on platform and seventh in the 1-meter competition. Carolina Sculti placed fifth on the 3-meter, sixth on 1-meter and ninth overall on platform.

Elizabeth Fitzpatrick took home sixth in the 3-meter synchronized diving, fifth on the 1-meter and 11th in the 3-meter event.

“James, Elizabeth and Caroline had standout performances,” Korn said. “These three will go far in their diving careers.”
