Robin Hood’s Lemonaid program to raise funds for New Yorkers in need

This Saturday, May 30, hundreds of kids, teens and families from across Greenwich and Scarsdale will be taking part in Robin Hood’s Lemonaid program to raise funds for New Yorkers in need. By selling glasses of lemonade to their neighbors, kids of all ages will make a meaningful difference in the lives of hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers living in poverty.

Since it first began more than 10 years ago, some of the tri-state’s youngest poverty fighters have raised more than $1,000,000 through Lemonaid – one refreshing glass at a time – making it possible for Robin Hood to fund the most effective and innovative schools, job training programs, physical and mental health support services, and other vital programs that help lift New Yorkers out of poverty.

Lemonaid is an easy way to make a meaningful difference for those who are less fortunate, and is a fun way for parents to introduce their children to the importance of giving back.

“Our annual Robin Hood Lemonaid sale marks the beginning of summer in Scarsdale,” said Matt Lefkowitz, a junior at Scarsdale High School. “Attacking poverty in New York City has become part of the fabric of our community. Thank you for supporting us and this incredibly important mission.” Scarsdale residents have participated in Lemonaid for the past 10 years.

“It’s incredible that something as fun as a lemonade stand could make such a profound difference in fighting poverty,” said Olivia Weiser from Greenwich Academy. “Last year, I had volunteers ranging from my six-year old cousin to my seventy-year old grandma. I found the event so meaningful that I couldn’t wait to organize a stand representing my entire school this time!”

Lemonaid stands and volunteers will be found throughout Scarsdale (including in the Village and in front of C-town, Balduccis, and the Metro Deli) and Greenwich (along Greenwich Ave and Belle Haven,) as well as other locations in both towns this coming Saturday.

In 2014, Lemonaid raised more than $100,000 – enough to provide 800,000 nutritious meals to New Yorkers in need. And once again, Robin Hood will ensure that every penny raised through Lemonaid will fund the best food pantries, soup kitchens, and other emergency food providers throughout the five boroughs.

“Lemonaid is one of our favorite events of the year, because it’s an easy, social and joyous way for children and their families to come together for the purpose of helping others,” said David Saltzman, executive director of Robin Hood. “All of us at Robin Hood are humbled by the giving spirit of these amazing kids who make Lemonaid possible and thank them for their enthusiasm, creativity and concern for their less fortunate neighbors – they are truly an inspiration.”
