Parks & Rec to host reggae, jazz concerts this weekend

music note stockEvery little thing is going to be all right on July 13 when reggae band Kronic performs at Byram Park, followed by a jazz concert on July 14.

The well-rounded band is known around town as a crowd pleaser, playing various genres of music with their own flavor, and having opened for acts like K.C. and the Sunshine Band, The Tom Tom Club and with various popular reggae artists locally and internationally.

The band consists of Derrick Hanchard, formerly of the Bruce Museum, on guitar and vocals, Eric Thompson on drums and vocals, Steve Brown on bass, Manuel Baston on keyboards and vocals and Kandie Johnson on vocals. They come together with beautiful harmony and individual leads. Based in Bridgeport, the members are from varying origins — the U.S., England, Aruba and Jamaica.

Concert attendees are encouraged to join the Department of Parks and Recreation on Saturday to enjoy a picnic dinner, relax and listen to some wonderful music with the family at Byram Park from 5 to 6:30. The rain date is Sunday, July 14.

The department will also host the first Jazz on the Sound Concert for the summer on July 14. The concert will feature a Dixieland jazz band which will play on the 4 p.m. Island Beach ferry, continue playing on Island Beach and play again on the 5:30 p.m. return trip ferry.

All park pass fees and ferry fees apply.
