Expect to get wet on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Boys & Girls Club (BGCG) of Greenwich. Kids of all ages, families and BGCG supporters will join together in the pool for fun and fund-raising on behalf of the 8th Annual Swim-A-Thon.

Future Olympians, water dwellers and wannabe guppies who have collected pledges per lap, will hit the pool for lap swimming from 8 to 11 a.m. that Saturday. After the lap swim, club family members will make their splash complete with relays and obstacle courses from noon to 2 p.m. during an open swim session. The club welcomes all Greenwich residents to support the kids participating in this year’s Swim-A-Thon.

“We are all about fitness and fun. Swimming is an ideal, all around exercise and the competition is enjoyable for families and onlookers,” said Dawn Berrocal, BGCG aquatics coordinator.

BGCG swimmers are accepting pledges from the community to help reach this year’s tidal wave of a goal of $20,000. To participate, the community can sponsor a swimmer at Bgcg.org/2013swimathon or by phone at 203-869-3224.

To rouse participation and to fund-raise for the Swim-A-Thon, Don Palmer, BGCG program director, has accepted the challenge to raise $5,000 by collection just $5 from 1,000 people. To make his goal, 941 more sponsors are needed.

Funds for the Swim-A-Thon will support the club’s aquatic programs, ranging from staff to equipment, and will allow the club to provide quality programs for its members. With a yearly membership of $25, members can join the swim team and participate in special clinics including swimming lessons, snorkeling, water polo, water ballet, kayaking and underwater hockey.
