Faryniarz receives 2015 PTA Council Essence Award

On May 28 at the Board of Education Building, the PTA Council Essence Award Recognition ceremony was held to honor individuals who demonstrated excellence in volunteerism. The Essence award, in its 5th year, was created to acknowledge individuals who tirelessly and admirably work to better The Greenwich Public Schools, whether in a position of leadership or as a member of a team. The 2015 Recipient of the Essence award was Julie Faryniarz nominated by the Greenwich High School PTA.

Faryniarz has been an active member of the PTA for the last sixteen years. Her leadership roles include co-president of the Riverside School, president of PTA Council, member of the GHS PTA Executive Board and PTA Council Executive Board. She also clocked numerous volunteer hours as class parent, field trip chaperone, field day and graduation day volunteer, parent advisor for Student Council, Eastern Middle School fundraising committee, EMS Social Dance co-chair, parent leader of the GHS soccer booster club, Welcome Back chair for GHS staff BBQ, and for the last four years, the Student Activities Coordinator at GHS. The Essence Award recognized her life-long commitment to Greenwich Public Schools.

Julie has also volunteered with the Greenwich Alliance, an education foundation formed in 2006 to help improve the Achievement Gap and provide innovative educational programs and opportunities for the Greenwich Public Schools district. Julie helped establish the Tuning Into Music program and for the last seven years has served as the Executive Director of the Alliance which gives her a platform to champion causes that serve the needs of students.

The following individuals were also honored at the Recognition Ceremony for their contributions to their schools and PTAC Committees: Jessica Capozza, Hamilton Avenue School, Steve Clark and Rich Fulton, Old Greenwich School, Gaetane Francis, PTAC ALP Committee, Kiyomi Freeman, North Street School, Andrew Sinclair, Greenwich High School, and Anne Vranos, North Mianus School.
