Families go wild! Animal attractions, hot air balloons are big hits at event

It might have looked for a while as though the weather was going to be the only thing “going wild” this past Sunday, but the rain and clouds ended up hightailing it out of there and the Greenwich Land Trust’s Go Wild! event went on as planned.

The annual Conyers Farm spectacular is a major fund-raiser for the Land Trust, which currently oversees the preservation of more than 637 acres of woodlands, meadows, orchards, salt marshes and other land in town. And it’s become one of the most popular family events of the year. Kids, parents, grandparents and others interested in a family friendly day outside came from all over the area to the event.

And despite gloomy weather in the beginning of the event, which at one point included a brief thunderstorm, by the end of the day the clouds had left and the sun was shining. Food was plentiful, music was provided by the Jackson Pike Skifflers, who were back by popular demand according to the event organizers, and there was plenty to do for the whole family. Kids were able to enjoy a petting zoo, pony rides, a tower climb, rides up in a cherry picker and lots of games. And of course, the always popular hot air balloons made their appearance.

While the balloons were forced down initially because of the weather, when the sun came back out they once again took to the air as long lines formed to get a ride in them.
