Greenwich High student receives top honors and scholarship

Greenwich High School student Ethan Novek was just awarded top honors and a scholarship at one of the nation’s most prestigious science fairs, the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS). More than 8,000 students from across the country competed in regional competitions that led to this national event. They presented their original research in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to compete for educational scholarships and recognition from the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force.

Ethan received third place honors and a $4,000 undergraduate scholarship in the Environmental Sciences category for research on Novel Low Grade Waste Heat Recovery System with Simultaneous Electricity Generation, Carbon Sequestration and Urea Production.

The depth of research and level of competition at the JSHS event was incredible. Ethan earned recognition from the science community and his peers, and we’re hoping you’d also be interested in writing a local story about this fantastic achievement. I’m happy to put you in touch with Ethan, his mentor at school, or the regional director for JSHS to facilitate a story. Here’s a link to the press release with more details. Please let me know your thoughts.

Also, if you’re ever working on a bigger picture education story that focuses on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), I hope you’ll keep the Army Educational Outreach Program in mind. Through AEOP, the Army leverages its world-class scientists and engineers and research facilities to offer students and teachers a variety of meaningful, real-world STEM experiences, competitions and paid internships.
