Greenwich Relay For Life is June 12

The 2015 Greenwich Relay For Life will be held on June 12 on the King Street campus of Brunswick School in Greenwich. This marks the 9th year Greenwich has hosted a Relay. Since 2007, volunteers from Greenwich, Stamford, and other neighboring towns have raised more than $700,000. This year the event will be led by tri-chairs Kevin Landesman, Kyle McDougall, and Nick Rodriquez (see photo).

Landesman, a math teacher and cross-country coach at Brunswick School, has been involved with Relay For Life since his brother’s passing in 2008. He and his family formed Team Hole in One in memory of Keith Landesman, a Stamford cardiologist and avid golfer. “It’s brought our whole family closer,” said Landesman, who lives in Pleasantville, NY. “It’s united us in this common goal to fight cancer and it’s given us a way to continue to remember my brother.”

The tri-chairs are thrilled to announce they have already surpassed their $100,000 fundraising goal, and have 54 teams and more than 430 registered participants with three weeks still to go before the main event.

Local students are actively involved in the planning and organization of thisevent. The Greenwich High School Cancer Awareness Club, led by Aly Santarosa, Gianna Demasi, and Agustina Buscaglia, are part of this year’s planning committee as Recognition Chairs. Brunswick Upper Schooler’s George Goodfriend and William Nash are Team Ambassadors charged with increasing participation and awareness in the Brunswick and Greenwich Academy communities. There is even a group of students expected from the Relay For Life Club at Bronxville High School where Kevin’s wife Dana teaches.

Some of the day of event highlights will include a concession stand, dunk tank, silent auction, DJ, live music performances, sports competitions, ceremonies, and so much more. Cancer survivors and their caregivers are also invited to attend a complementary catered dinner from 6-7 p.m. Relay For Life will officially begin with opening ceremonies at 7 pm, with activities continuing overnight until closing exercises at 7 a.m. the following morning.

The Greenwich Relay For Life Team is still searching for new teams, sponsors, and volunteers. To get involved or to find out more information, please contact Kevin Landesman at [email protected] Information on Relay For Life may also be found at
