UPDATE WEDNESDAY 10:30 A.M. — A Greenwich man remains in critical condition as a result of injuries suffered from being struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon.

The Greenwich Police Department has now identified the man, saying he is Conrado Velasquez, 84, of 35 Old Point Road. The investigation has revealed that he was crossing Field Point Road in the vicinity of its intersection with Brookside Drive when he was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound. Police have said it’s not clear if the man was in the crosswalk or not.

Mr. Velasquez was struck by a 2007 Acura that was occupied by three people. Police have not released the name of the woman driving the car. Her husband as well as one of their employees were in the car at the time with her and police say there have been no independent witnesses found yet.

The accident investigation remains open by Greenwich Police Lt. Kraig Gray said on Wednesday that the preliminary findings are that the vehicle was traveling at a “relatively slow speed” at the time of the accident. After being struck, Mr. Velasquez was reportedly knocked to the ground and suffered “several life threatening injuries.”

No one in the car was injured.

If anyone witnessed the accident at approximately 12:52 p.m. on Monday on Field Point Road, they are urged to call the police department’s Traffic Technician Roger Drenth at 203-622-8014.
