Greenwich Education Group hosts Boarding School Fair

Greenwich Education Group will host its sixth annual Boarding School Fair on Tuesday, May 19, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., at Chelsea Piers Connecticut in Stamford. More than 100 respected boarding and junior boarding schools will be on hand to meet students and their families and answer questions. The Boarding School Fair is free and open to the public.

boardingschfairfull1For families who have never considered boarding school, the Fair offers the opportunity to become acquainted with the excellent options throughout the United States. Many parents may not consider sending their child “away” to school, fearing that boarding schools are havens for children of privilege or refuges for troubled teens. In reality, boarding schools serve a diverse group of motivated students who study and live in supportive, inclusive academic communities.

Boarding schools are experts in managing teenagers and are excellent partners in helping students develop into responsible adults. Many parents feel that relationships are strengthened when their teens have the carefully supervised independence that boarding schools provide.

According to Vicky Newman, founder and executive director, Greenwich Education Group and co-director, Day and Boarding School Advisory Services, “Research shows that boarding schools better prepare kids by developing such skills as confidence and critical thinking. The experience of living within a school community makes the adjustment to college that much easier.”

More than 500 prospective students and parents from New York City and Fairfield, Westchester, Putnam and New Haven counties attended last year’s event to speak admissions directors from different schools.

“I loved seeing so many schools under one roof,” one parent said. “Admissions people from the different schools were very approachable and eager to speak with you about their schools.”

Victoria Newman and Muffy Fox, Co-Directors of Day and Boarding School Advisory Services at Greenwich Education Group, note that choosing the right independent or boarding school is a decision that can have a lifelong impact. The Boarding School Fair offers families an efficient way to learn about the different characteristics of a variety of boarding schools.

The fair was first held in 2010, when an inspired Ms. Newman saw a need for boarding schools to effectively reach out to a new group of potential students, and for parents and students to efficiently learn about and compare schools’ offerings.

The Boarding School Fair is also co-sponsored by Chelsea Piers CT and Moffly Media.
