Greenwich High hockey gets top seed in Div. I playoffs

The seedings are out for the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference ice hockey tourney and Greenwich High School is getting set to start play in the Division I playoffs.

The Cardinals are the top overall seed in the Division I playoffs. Coming into the playoffs with a 17-1-2 record, Big Red hosts South Windsor in the opening round Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

If the Cardinals advance, they will play the winner of the No. 8 seed Simsbury High School versus No. 9 seed Fairfield Prep in the quarterfinals.

Another FCIAC team, St. Joseph High School will also join Big Red in the Division I postseason.

The Cadets finished the regular season with an 10-8-1 record and enter the hotly-contested Division I playoffs as the No. 15 seed. St. Joseph will play a familiar foe in the opening round, as they travel to the Darien Ice Rink and battle second-seeded Darien High School.

The game will be played Wednesday night at 7 p.m.

The winner of the Cadets against the Blue Wave will battle in the CIAC Division I quarterfinals against either the No. 10 seeded East Catholic or the No. 7 seeded Ridgefield Tigers.

The championship game for the CIAC Division I tournament is slated for March 21 at the Ingall’s Rink in New Haven. Face off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
