Greenwich High’s Brandon Aguda placed fourth at the 113 pound weight class at the Class LL Wrestling Championships at Trumbull High on Saturday. That finish was good enough to send the senior to next weekend’s State Open.

“I’m looking forward to the Open, I’d love to go out by placing,” said Aguda, who took up wrestling three years ago. “My first season I was decent at JV, then I went to camp that summer and got better.”

Aguda was fourth at FCIACs as a junior and took third this season. He was fifth in LL last season and fourth this year.

Joining him at Opens will be Ethan Ross, who placed fifth at 152 pounds, and Michael Ceci, who placed sixth at 145 pounds.

A seventh seed, Ross won his first two matches by fall, 2:00 and 3:51, before losing to Adam Angelucci from Trumbull in 4:54 of their semifinal.

Ross placed fifth with a 6-0 victory over Shelton’s Dan Persson.

A sophomore, Ceci was seeded seventh and moved to the semifinals with a 1:25 fall  followed by an 11-5 decision over second-seeded John Litts from Shelton.

Third-seeded Alex Stavola dropped him into wrestlebacks, 8-0.

Newtown High (282.5) won the team title, followed by Danbury (231), Simsbury (189), Xavier-Middletown (189) and Trumbull (183). Greenwich (54) was 15th.
