Fischer pins way to FCIAC wrestling final

FI-wrestlingNo. 3 Chris Fischer of Greenwich pinned No. 2 Michael Gaboardi of Danbury in 2:52 in the 285-pound class FCIAC semifinal match on Saturday, Feb. 14, at New Canaan High School.

Fischer, the second Cardinal to make the finals on Saturday, will face Trumbull’s Steve D’Amato, who upset the top-ranked Stephon O’Grinc of Harding in Bridgeport in 3:26.

The FCIAC championships, in all weight classes, are going on all day at New Canaan High School. Eagle grapplers won six of the eight semifinal matches they qualified for on Saturday.

Notes: Also on Saturday, Brandon Aguda of Greenwich lost his semifinal match to Austin Sherman of Ludlow in the 113-pound class… Ethan Ross of Greenwich lost his semifinal match to Adam Angelucci of Trumbull in the 152-pound class… Greenwich’s Erik Menchaca won his semifinal match in in the 220-pound class.
