Brunswick grapplers outlast Iona Prep, 55-23

The Brunswick School wrestling team pulled out a 55-23 victory Wednesday afternoon at Iona Prep to move to 13-1 on the season.

Seven matches into the dual meet, Brunswick found themselves down 16-23 to the Gaels. But the Bruins rattled off eight straight victories to close the match out.

Junior Lucas Bell (14-4) got the eight bout win streak going with an impressive first period pin. After five more wins in the upper weights, freshman J.J. von Oiste (4-4), stepped back into the varsity line-up at 99-pounds. (New York State weight class) and sealed the dual meet for Brunswick with his 9-0 major decision. Sophomores Brooks Hennessy (13-0) and Andrew Hennessy (13-1) closed out the dual meet with dominant performances.

The Bruins will travel to Hopkins this Saturday for the FAA Championships (10 a.m. start) with dual meets against Greens Farms Academy, Hamden Hall Country Day School, Hopkins School and Rye Country Day School.
