Board of Selectmen to meet Wednesday, choose Theis successor

The Greenwich Board of Selectmen has scheduled a special meeting for Wednesday, Jan. 13.

At that time the board is slated to choose a replacement for the late Selectman David Theis, who died suddenly last month after five years on the board. The beloved Mr. Theis had his life and legacy celebrated this past Saturday at a memorial service at Christ Church but the board must appoint a third member. The choice must be a Republican since that was Mr. Theis’ party.

First Selectman Peter Tesei and Selectman Drew Marzullo must both approve the choice and will do so without debate at the Wednesday meeting which takes place at 10 a.m. at Town Hall in the Meeting Room. After the choice is made, that person will then be sworn into office.

This choice will fill out the rest of Mr. Theis’ term on the board, which runs through November. The Greenwich Republican Town Committee (RTC) would have the choice this summer about whether or not to renominate this person. A resident could challenge the selectmen’s choice through a petition and force a special election in the coming months but that is not expected to happen.
