The River House was happy to celebrate the holidays last month including with a visit from Santa.

On Tuesday, Dec. 23, caregivers and members of River House Adult Day Center gathered for the annual holiday celebration. Guests were in awe as they arrived, to see the building carefully decorated with red poinsettias, light filled garland and glistening snowflakes.

The party kicked off with a performance of traditional carols by the River House Bell Choir, led by Lyndsay DeMatteo, assistant director of Therapeutic Recreation. Afterward, caregiver Lynn Sutherland began a reading from Twas the Night Before Christmas, which was concluded by several River House members.

Ms. Sutherland’s father, George Sutherland, has attended the day program for more than eight years. In reflecting on her experiences, Ms. Sutherland told Ms. DeMatteo that, “River House has been an invaluable service to our family for the past eight? years. We would not have been able to keep my father at home without it. The staff is exceptional and most staff members have been here the entire eight years.”

The holiday party concluded with a music performance by vocalists, Patsy and Tony, and a visit from board member Michel Smith, dressed up as Santa Claus.
