Sacred Heart squash falls to Rye High School, 7-0

The Convent of the Sacred Heart squash team ran into some tough competition against Rye High School Monday afternoon, traveling to the Life Time Fitness squash courts and coming away with the 7-0 defeat.

“I knew Rye HS had a strong number one team, so I wanted the girls to do their best, try to step up their game and do what the could to make it as hard as possible for the other girls,” Sacred Heart head coach Celia Allamargot said. “And they did so. But there is still a lot of positive things, as the girl’s game is growing up and they are improving more and more.”

At No. 1 was Mary Grace Henry, who lost to Caroline Neave 2-11, 5-11, 4-11. Competing at No. 2 was Catherine Keating and she lost to Caroline Balwin 4-11, 1-11, 3-11. Alexandra Lilly competed at No. 3 and lost to Clarissa Carson-Rose 8-11, 4-11, 4-11, while Isabella Libassi lost to Ellie O’Callaghan at No. 4 by a score of 7-11, 8-11, 7-11.

At No. 5 was Sacred Heart’s Olivia Monahan, who lost to Kira Kacha 7-11, 8-11, 7-11 and Haley Davis lost to Kerry Lavelle at No. 6 by a score of  9-11, 10-12, 10-12. Rounding out the day was Haley Horn at No. 7, as she fell in a hard-fought match to Isabel Abt 6-11, 12-10, 8-11, 3-11.

“Some of the matches were really close, and even if we lost, it was good for them to have some tough matches,” Allamargot said. “It helps to push yourself to do as well as you can. You learn a lot from losing, so you can work on the different aspect of your game that was missing.”
