Brunswick wrestling nets wins over Trinity-Pawling, Salisbury

The Brunswick School wrestling team improved its overall record to 8-1 on the season with a pair of convincing wins against league opponents in the first match back from winter break.

In the first match of the tri-meet, Brunswick faced hosts Trinity-Pawling and came away with a 52-19 win.

The Bell brothers, sophomore Emmett (3-5) and junior Lucas (10-3), sparked the team’s performance with key wins against strong opponents at the 120- and 170-pound weight classes.

Another set of brothers, sophomores Brooks (8-0) and Andrew (8-1), earned pins against the Pride, as did junior Jon Errico (15-0) along with sophomores Alex Tucker (6-5) and Lachlan Rosato (9-3).

Senior co-captain Matt Marvin (11-2) earned a decision 6-5 victory while his co-captain Jack Jones (5-7) earned a major decision.

Junior Sandro Mariani (4-9) dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to a Trinity-Pawling captain.

In the second match, Brunswick took on Salisbury and won 78-6 over the Scarlet Knights.

Lucas Bell picked up a pinfall victory against Salisbury’s Peter Fousek 46 seconds into the match, while Mariani was a second quicker with his pinfall victory against Yuri Okada. Joe Fervil finished off Nathan Monk with a pin at the 1:57 mark of the match. Not to be outdone was Alex Russel, who beat Louis Mason via pinfall at the 1:11 mark of the match.

Brunswick will be back in action when it hosts Hackley on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in the Ostrye Wrestling Gymnasium.
