Oct. 7: Registration open for Zumbo Race

Registration is now open for the sixth annual John Zumbo Race, which will be held on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 9 a.m.

The race will start on Woods Road at the picnic area in Bruce Park and cover the distance of 5K, winding around a series of lovely ponds, rolling hills and naturally wooded areas that overlook the Indian Harbor. Runners, walkers, strollers, and pets are all welcome and T-shirts will be given to all registrants with prizes awarded in several categories.

Small children can race for free in their own competitive event to be held at the picnic area.

Funds raised through the race will benefit the John D. Zumbo Memorial Scholarship Fund, whose goal is to annually award a scholarship to a Greenwich High School senior who is planning to pursue a career in a fitness or health-related area in college.

The scholarship is managed by the Greenwich Scholarship Association. To date, 10 scholarships have been awarded.

The scholarship was established in memory of John Zumbo and celebrates his love of health and fitness.

Mr. Zumbo, a life-long resident of Greenwich and personal trainer, owned Physique Transformations, LLC in Greenwich before he passed away in 2006 at the age of 28.

All those interested in fitness and having fun are welcome to join in the event. Registration can be done online prior to the race at Zumboscholarship.com or on the day of the event.
