Deadline set to help Lymphoma fund-raiser

A group fitness event is planned for Saturday, Sept. 29 to raise money for Lymphoma research and care, through the Lymphoma Society of Fairfield.

The event which will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Peak Physique of Greenwich, 50 Holly Hill Lane is designed to bring awareness and aid to those affected by Lymphoma and blood cancers.

According to organizers, 50 participants will go through a high intensity circuit workout to raise money and people can still sign up by calling Peak Physique of Greenwich at 203-625-9595.

It costs $40 to participate and that is limited to the first 50 people so you need to reserve a spot by Sept. 24. T-shirts will be given out to all participants and there will be free food and beverages immediately following the event. Non-members will receive a special offer and free tours and consultation from Peak Physique.

There will be five 10-12 minute fitness stations and trainer will conduct different exercises in each room. Each trainer at the different station will then explain the exercises that the people will be performing at their stations. The format will be 30 seconds of exercise then 10-20 seconds rest. During the rest period the people will switch exercises.

After ten minutes of this circuit an air horn will sound signaling a transition to the next station. This will encompass the entire hour.

Patrick McGovern, who organized the event, will also be performing a fitness challenge to raise additional money.

That workout will be based on five different exercises in which he will perform as many repetitions as possible in one-minute time frames with a 30 second rest between each exercise. He will perform this until the end of the hour long session. You can sponsor him per rep he gets, or give a flat donation.

If you are unable to attend you can make a donation at Ct.support.llsevent.org/liftingforlymphoma.

Be the Match will also be at the event to take anyone who would like to donate to the stem cell bone marrow registry.
