Greenwich Hospital is a big ‘fan for the cure’

Greenwich Hospital is teaming up with popular national sports talk show host Ed Randall and his Fans for the Cure Foundation to fight prostate cancer.

On Thursday, Sept. 20 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Greenwich Hospital, at 5 Perryridge Road there will be a rather unique education and screening program.

The event will include PSA screenings, which is just a simple blood test, and digital exams performed by Greenwich Hospital board certified urologists.

Mr. Randall is a longtime host of the radio program Ed Randall’s Talking Baseball Sunday mornings on 660 AM WFAN and Remember When, a baseball nostalgia show Saturday mornings on Sirius Channel 209 and XM 89. He is also a post-game analyst for the New York Yankees’ commercial telecasts on WWOR-TV, Channel 9. Mr. Randall, himself a prostate cancer survivor, will serve as master of ceremonies for the evening.

As part of the night’s activities Mr. Randall will host a live, private presentation of Talking Baseball at the Noble Conference Center, from 6 to 7 p.m. featuring a panel of former major leaguers including Greenwich residents Lee Mazzilli, Tim Teufel, Phil Linz and Dave Fleming, who will talk about their career baseball experiences and the current 2012 major league baseball season.

In 2002, after a successful battle against prostate cancer Mr. Randall started Fans for the Cure to educate the public about prostate cancer prevention, detection and treatment. The foundation has gained national recognition and has paired in recent years with the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays to conduct screenings at Yankee Stadium as well as awareness nights at more than 175 minor league stadiums across the country.

This is a free program and for more information contact the Community Health Department at Greenwich Hospital at 203-863-4444. No prior registration is required.
