Greenwich boys hockey keeps momentum in big Iona Prep win

After a slow first period, the Greenwich High School boys ice hockey team exploded for eight goals in the final two periods and unloaded on Iona Prep 9-1 Friday night.

Just like against West Haven High School on Wednesday, the scoring was a complete team effort. After Kevin Piotrzkowski got the ball rolling for Big Red, the rest of the team responded.

Kristian Cunningham took the pass from Tommy Rogan and Piotrzkowski and scored the team’s second goal of the game. Cunningham was also involved in the team’s third goal, as he assisted Tommy Feda’s goal. Rogan and Cunningham also pitched in on the Michel Mozian goal.

Brian Silard got into the act to start the third period with a goal that was assisted by Colin Kelly and Piotrzkowski. Silard then spread the wealth by assisting on the next goal, as Matt Lodato beat the Iona Prep goalie. Montana Larson netted a goal that was assisted by Lodato and Silard, while Oliver Fulton got the pass from Calvin McKinney for the team’s eighth goal.

Rounding out the scoring was Larson’s second goal of the game, as she got help from Phil Glasser and Silard.

With the win, the Cardinals upped its overall record to 2-0 on the season and will be back in action Tuesday when they return home and face a tough New Canaan High School hockey team at 4 p.m.
