The Live Nativity is returning to First Congregational Church just in time for Christmas.

Friday, Dec. 19, marks the arrival of the sheep for the crèche on the front lawn of the First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich. Some may remember the excitement last year when sheep Barney and Po got out of their pen and took off into Binney Park across the street. This year, the fence has been reinforced and the sheep will be ready to greet visitors through the Christmas Season.

On Sunday, Dec. 21, the fourth Sunday of Advent, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., people will join the sheep by the outdoor crèche for an interactive Live Nativity pageant. New this year, The Buzz Truck will also be on hand with coffee, tea, hot chocolate and other goodies from 11:30 to 1:30. The first cup will be paid for by the church when you come by to check out this sight, visit the sheep and sing some Christmas carols.

As always, all are invited to join First Church on Christmas Eve. There are some new service times this year as well. Lessons and Carols for Young Families will be held at 10 a.m; this service is especially for families with young children and includes a live nativity in the church’s historic meetinghouse. The Cherub Choir will provide music.

The family service will be held at 3 p.m. and includes the “Once in Royal David’s City” children’s pageant and songs from the Children’s Choir. All are invited to gather around the crèche on the front lawn of the church to sing some of carols of the season during the community carol sing at 4 p.m.

The music will continue with the Festival Carol Service at 6 p.m., featuring a brass ensemble. The “Once in Royal David’s City” Nativity pageant will be held at this time as well, with songs from the Chancel Choir.

There will be a candlelight service with communion at 9 p.m. During the service, the Meetinghouse is illuminated by candlelight while guests share in the magic of the season. The youth/alumni choir will sing. The church is located at 108 Sound Beach Avenue. For more information, call the church at 203-637-1791 or visit Fccog.org.
