Brunswick water polo splits weekend matches, returns home today

On Saturday, Brunswick Water Polo went to the Williston Northampton School to play for two games in the New England Prep School Water Polo League.

In the first game against Williston Northampton School, Brunswick came away with the easy 11-2 victory, as they used its stifling team defense, netted six goals from Pat Stefanou, and had solid goaltending from Sander Profaci. In addition to Stefanou’s goals, Alex Prout finished with three goals and both Julian Ronda and Grant Pierce each added one goal. Emmet McElwreath had three assists, while Connor Kupersmith played excellent individual defense in the hole set.

Brunswick’s second game was against Deerfield was a much closer match. Deerfield scored the game-winning goal with 1:35 remaining to hand the Bruins its first loss of the season, 7-6. Brunswick’s Sander Profaci had four saves. Stefanou led the scoring by netting two goals, while Ronda, Prout, McElwreath, and Pierce each had single goals.

At the conclusion of the weekend games, Brunswick upped its overall record to 4-1 on the season. Today, Brunswick returns home for a game against Hotchkiss. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
