Brunswick wrestling takes second at Loomis Holiday Duals

The Brunswick School wrestling team had another stellar weekend. Competing at the Loomis Chaffee Holiday Duals, a highly-competitive annual event, the Bruins (5-1) took second place out of eight teams.

Brunswick won “Pool A” by beating hosts Loomis Chaffee (50-27), Greens Farms Academy (48-34) and Lawrenceville (47-24).

In the finals, Brunswick matched up against St. Benedict’s Prep (Newark, N.J.) who had won “Pool B” with wins over Northfield Mount Hermon, Trinity-Pawling and Avon Old Farms.

The Gray Bees proved too skilled for the Bruins. While both teams were missing key wrestlers from their line-up, St. Benedict’s proved why they are a perennial top 10 team at Prep Nationals with the 51-26 win.

Junior Jon Errico (145-pound weight class) earned Most Outstanding Wrestler honors once again this past weekend. Errico (9-0) earned a 6-0 decision over a returning All-American from Lawrenceville, who bumped up from 138-pounds for the match.

Junior captain Alex Russell (182-pound weight class.), senior captain Matt Marvin (195-pound weight class.) and junior Joe Fervil (285-pound weight class) also went 4-0 on the day.

Juniors Sandro Mariani (132-pound weight class), Alex Tucker (138-pound weight class) and Lucas Bell (160- and 170-pound weight class), along with sophomore Lachlan Rosato (220-pound weight class), sparked an impressive team effort with wins in the Lawrenceville dua,l which was Brunswick’s best team effort to date.

Freshmen J.J. von Oiste (103-pound weight class), Rishi Das (113-pound weight class) and Sean Amill (160-pound weight class) stepped into the varsity line-up and were valuable contributors on the day.
