Nina Gagarin’s sculptural paintings will be exhibited at Les Beaux Arts Gallery through through Dec. 30.

According to the unique design of painted panels created by Ms. Gagarin takes the viewer into a journey of delightful landscapes and distinct perspectives.

Her paintings have the playfulness of Thomas McKnight’s work with a three dimensional vision.

“Creating the sculpture for the perspective paintings was a challenging endeavor in the beginning stage,” Ms. Gagarin explains. “Months of perfecting the angles in order for the paintings to ‘move’ was a long, painstaking process of mistakes and corrections.”

Ms. Gagarin brings to her work a symbolic reality that can serve as a catalyst for joy and contemplation. She summarizes her style with these words, “My chosen field has been a combination of my interest in the decorative arts as well as the fine arts. Trompe l’oeil has always intrigued me, as has the challenge of perspective painting. The reward I receive in presenting the finished paintings is the ‘magic’ – that moment when the viewers first notice that the paintings are moving and the surprise on their faces. It never ceases to delight me, and I know then that I have accomplished what I set out to do with each piece.”

Ms. Gagarin was born in Greenwich. Her childhood memories of painting, drawing, sculpting and music influenced her artistic path into the arts. She studied art in Rome, then went to Simmons College in Boston where she graduated with a degree in fine arts.

She travelled extensively both in the United States and abroad for private commissions of trompe l’oeil murals.
