The North Mianus Elementary School community recently honored more than 30 veterans, all relatives of school children on Veterans Day at its annual Veterans Day celebration.

The NMS chorus sang versions of The National Anthem, God Bless America and American Tears. Principal Angela Schmidt gave a warm welcome speech to all and President Obama’s Veterans Day proclamation was read by Asssitant Principal Jennifer Bencivengo.

The veterans introduced themselves and explained which military branch they represented. Various students wrote and read wonderful poems.

Local police and firefighters were also honored. The veteran guests and their families enjoyed a lovely breakfast hosted by the school’s PTA after the ceremony.
