First Light Festival is a hit despite the rain

A little rain (actually a lot of rain) couldn’t dampen the holiday spirit this past weekend as the Old Greenwich First Light Festival went on in spite of the weather.

Many hearty souls braved the Saturday night rain to enjoy the annual festivities along Sound Beach Avenue. Attendance was still strong for the event which had the participation of lots of local merchants and has become quite the staple in the community to spread holiday cheer. In fact the rain made people more eager to have fun as events went on as planned, even with a few changes.

The appearance by Santa Claus and from the Sound Beach Community Band were forced inside the fire station to protect against the elements and groups like the Off Sounders a cappella singers and Riversideways performed inside local business instead of outside. But the horse drawn sleigh rides still ran throughout the night and there was a teen dance party at Upper Crust Bagel Company. Plus local restaurants like Garden Catering and The Beach House were offering treats to hungry attendees as was Old Greenwich Fine Wines & Cheese which offered a more adult treat with hot apple cider mixed with bourbon.

A lot of fun was had and Richard Fulton, head of the Old Greenwich Merchats Association, which puts the festival together, said attendees were quick to thank all the participating merchants for holding the event despite the rain. He thanked the selectmen’s office, the Department of Parks and Recreation and the GPD for all their help.
