Greenwich Library teen programs in December

This month at Greenwich Library, students can get valuable volunteer hours at the library by joining the Student Leadership Council (now meeting twice each month) and challenge the resident Grand Master to a chess game or two.

The library’s regularly scheduled student programs, including Middle School Book Club, meet monthly and are open to all without charge unless otherwise indicated.

The first Student Leadership Council Meeting will be held tonight, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. Students in grades seven to 12 gather at Teen Central on the second floor to brainstorm about using library resources to initiate and execute projects relevant to their peer group in exchange for community service hours. Refreshments are served.

For more information contact Ed Morrissey at [email protected] or Everett Purdue at [email protected]

National Master Rich Jackson will provide instruction, supervise play and challenge students to an occasional match during Friday Night Chess Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Bring a love of the game or a desire to learn. No registration required. For more information contact  Mr. Morrissey.

Middle School Book Club is for literature fans in grades sixth to eighth and will meet Thursday, Dec. 18 at 4:30 p.m. This month’s title is One for the Murphys by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. This story follows the experiences of foster kid Carley, who uses humor and street smarts to cope with her unpredictable life until the loving, bustling Murphy family offers her more stability and a greater sense of belonging than she ever thought possible. Register for the program and pick up a copy of the book at the second floor reference desk. For information contact Margaret Walsh at [email protected]
