Avon Theatre features Beach Boys concerts

The Avon Theatre and Shelley Archives will feature a special presentation of The Beach Boys: Summer Concerts From 1970-1981 on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m.

The program will be hosted by music archivist Bill Shelley and is comprised entirely of live recordings in an effort to bring the audience the full Beach Boys experience.

The perfect harmony and association with music about cars, girls, and the glories of California molded the image of The Beach Boys as a quintessential American band whose music seemed to embody the essence of summer and celebration of life. Therefore it should be no surprise that The Beach Boys were hired by the White House and Central Park, in NYC, for summer concerts year after year, along with other top-draw celebrities.

In this program, the goal is to focus on multiple performances of The Beach Boys from these programs. No sun block or bug spray is needed, as we cast off the winter doldrums and time travel back through films and videos to the 1970’s and 1980’s to remember The Beach Boys’ special magic. The line up in all of these performances includes Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, and Bruce Johnston.

Some of the songs featured will be Heroes and Villains, Okie From Muskogee, I Get Around, Sloop John B, Good Vibrations, Fun, Fun, Fun and Little Deuce Coupe.

Carte blanche members will be admitted for free while tickets will cost $6 for members, $8 for students and seniors and $11 for nonmembers. Tickets are available online at Avontheatre.org or call the Avon business office at 203-661-0321 or the box office at 203-967-3660, ext. 2.
