Joanne Frentz, 76, lifelong creator, volunteer

Joanne W. Frentz

Joanne W. Frentz

Joanne W. Frentz of Cos Cob, Conn. died peacefully at home on November 6, 2014.

She was born on November 23, 1937 and grew up in Chicago, Ill. She met her soul mate and husband, William Frentz, while they were students at the University of Illinois. Married for 58 years, they were each devoted to the other and loved gardening, skiing, traveling, reading and spending quiet time together. Their shared love was compared by many as the kind thought to only be found in fairytales.

They moved to Cos Cob 29 years ago and Joanne was dedicated to volunteering in the community. She volunteered at the Garden Education Center and served on its Board as the Treasurer for more than 20 years. Joanne was an active Master Gardener for many years and volunteered in the plant clinic at the Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens. She provided income tax assistance at the Greenwich Library each tax season for over twenty years through “VITA.” She also actively participated in a local investment club.

With her lifelong passion for artistry and creativity, Joanne’s skills were abundant – an excellent cook, seamstress, needle pointer, gardener, piano player, even tap dance in her youth. Many years of horseback riding also gave Joanne lasting friendships with the “ladies of the barn”.

Along with her husband Bill, Joanne is survived by and deeply missed by her sister, Joyce Woltman of Colorado and nieces: Elizabeth Moyer of California, Victoria Oclassen of Washington and Anne Cerrone of Colorado, as well as other nieces and nephews in Illinois, including Kathy McIntosh; and Joanne’s beloved poodles, “the girls” – Madeline and Margot. Joanne’s lively spirit and boundless energy graced and enhanced our lives.

A memorial for friends will be at the Garden Education Center on November 22 from 3-5 p.m.
